  new here but looking forward to joining in some of the discussions with you all.. a small bit about me: i'm shane.

  was raised as a jw in the uk by my mum (single parent family) from about 2 years of age.

  got baptised at 15 for all the wrong reasons.

  so i had a discussion with my mother about this, and she claims that because of this that: "we are surely living in the last days right now" while i must admit myself that the situation seem chaotic, i don't want to believe that it is the last days.

  so question is, how do i face an opinion like that?

  early this morning, i was stopped at a service station dealing with a mechanical issue with my motorcycle.

  i was approached by 2 young men who pro-offered some of your reading material.

  i deeply regret that i was very unkind; in actual fact, i was quite mean in my response to them.

  I encounter a few meanies here and there in the territory, but it means nothing to me....ever. The average JW knows that for the most part the message is not well received. So, don't sweat it.

  Try to be kinder to people in general no matter what their message when approached nicely.

  VA shooting suspect was raised a JW! He mentions it on his Twitter account

  anyone in the usa following this morning's shooting "on-air" live tv will know what i'm talking about.

  bryce williams (not real name, but on-air name) shot and killed 2 people on live television this morning in roanoke, va. he was wearing a go-pro camera, and uploaded his first-person video onto his social media accounts.

  i've seen his twitter feed (before it was taken down), and not very far down he mentions being raised a jw.

  He became a self fulfilling prophesy, like so many others: Leave the org and become just another tool of Satan.

  What a different outcome if he only remained a JW and put into practice what the Bible teaches us all about love and morality.

  All of a sudden, wasting time preaching door to door, giving Bible studies, attending meetings or other JW activities seem like a better alternative than what this nut job did.

  Although he may have been raised a JW, he did not remain a JW because he was not their kind, as his actions now clearly show it.

  Why won't they simply change policy on sex offenders? Will they?

  why won't they (the wbt$ head honchos), simply change policy on sex offenders?

  will they?..especially after the arc for eg?

  it seems that with all the bad press and now the arc among other institutions that are exposing the wbt$ for a haven for paedophiles, why hasn't the wbt$ simply changed it's insane policy?.

  What woke you up?

  in march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.

  so what woke me up?

  an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

  Cognitive Dissonance

  the cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.

  long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.

  brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

  A vast majority of JWs, in the Spanish side that is, are in for pure social and familiar interaction. We could not care any less about doctrinal crap.

  And child abuse?! Big whoop-dee-doo, that is everywhere, and I mean everywhere!!! Along with all other ailments of our own human imperfection.

  okay, i don't even know where to start.

  i'm 16, i live in a strict jw household and i know if i am pregnant (which is a big possibility) ..i know i'm doomed to a life of misery.

  not because of my baby but because of my family and the isolation and judgement from the congregation.

  There are many handouts for young girls in your situation, here in the States anyway. Move out and continue conducting your life the non-JW way. Stop blaming others for your behavior.

  Did you at least pick a good person to screw around with? Perhaps there will be help there.

  It is loathesome when people blame others for situations they create for themselves.
